simply silhouettes

Whether morning’s hush
or the clatter and chatter
later in the day
Neither shadow nor substance
yet present without apology
Understated and at the same time bold
Basic black
brilliant and stark
against the sky’s distinctive backdrop
whether muted or in flaming colours,
a backdrop that
pales in significance
yet highlights and magnifies
both in tandem
and in juxtaposition…
…and one without the other
would not be the same
Such is the the fleeting
and abiding essence
and the constant contrast
of a silhouette.

aw, thanks!
not a story post – unless you consider each image a story, in which case there are at least several thousand words depicted here 🙂

What a beautiful set of images, I particularly like the tree against the sunrise/set sky, and the couple could easily have been my daughters on Cleeve Hill 🙂

glad you enjoyed this post, Vicky. the tree was captured at sunset one December evening. have a few clicks from that day, actually – the sky appeared as if it was on fire.
the two walkers are on the dyke of the south arm of the Fraser River – at sea level. no hills nearby – other than Vancouver’s North Shore Mountains which you can see peeking above the dyke at the lower right of the image.

thank you Robin. your kind words are much appreciated.
by the way, whatever happened to the cantankerous mule?
but the new look and moniker are great – and perhaps more appropriate than the old one. maybe it was time to put that mule out to pasture – he was getting rather mellow 🙂

It’s like looking into your beautiful and inspiring memory. Love every image but I like the best the one where 2 people are walking. Reminds me that life is sweet and happy when shared with someone. Have a blessed day my friend.

Silhouettes are my favorite. Maybe it’s the designer in me that loves the simplicity and composition opportunities. Wonderful collection. Love the tree against the orange sky. Beautiful!

Ooh, think my favorite is the tiny couple against the large sky, but love them all!

thanks Margie. that one is an action moment of trying to outwalk the pending rainstorm. i quite like that one, too, and i think it is the defining moment of this collage. it would not have been the same if it had another flower or tree.
the others are more quiet moments – even the crows appear to be sitting still, resting midway during their daily evening migration. anyhow, glad you enjoyed this. 🙂
