YAWN - something to do while waiting & waiting for someone to come home....

Yawn :: Caesar, the neighbours’ cat is sitting and waiting, and alternately lying down or yawning. And waiting some more. Isn’t it about time for dinner?!

Speaking of yawning, I don’t know why it is so, but for me it is terribly contagious. If I see someone yawning, I find myself yawning, too. Does that ever happen to you? In fact, as I write these lines, I have begun to yawn. ๐Ÿ™‚

One of my first ‘real jobs’ – one that lasted longer than the usual summer break between studies – was in the administration office of a relief and development agency. Before I digress too far, suffice it to say that a couple of my co-workers and I usually spent our lunch breaks together, and the resident graphic artist – who was incidently an incredible photographer – had an incorrigible but brilliant and slightly off-the-wall sense of humour, and we usually found something to laugh about. Well, one day they somehow figured out that yawning would get me going.

And during that lunch break they they just spontaneously began to yawn (excuse me I just yawned again, just remembering it) and before long I found myself yawning uncontrollably. It was all silly and banal, and yet for some odd reason it was one of those funny moments, and the laughter of my co-workers got me laughing, too, in between yawns. So in the end I couldn’t tell if the tears I was wiping from my eyes were the effect of all the laughter or all the yawning.

Anyhow, no more yawning talk, or I won’t be able to stop. ๐Ÿ™‚

This marks the 29th and last post of the 2012 Leap Year Celebration here at pix & kardz. You may well feel like yawning and stretching yourself, after being inundated with post notifications the entire month. ๐Ÿ™‚

Hope you enjoyed. It has certainly been fun for me, and you haveย made itย even more so with your visits, insights and comments. My heartfelt thanks for joining me in this celebration, even though Duotone didn’t always cut the mustard – or did so rather extravagantly at times, to put it more aptly. ๐Ÿ˜€ย  Duotone certainly had some sublime moments. Such fun.

And I guess that is it for Duotone comments from me, going forward – unless something outstandingly stupendous happens. I have yet to post an image with an orange background. Or a yellow that is not mustard. That would be cause for a celebration, I suspect.

In any case, one of the comments made early on during this series (thank you, roughseasinthemed!), included the suggestion that for such a project, it might be an idea toย inviteย bloggersย to participate if they would like.ย Not quite sure how the logistics of that would work out, but it sounds like it could be lots of fun. So am keeping that in mind for future reference, and putting it out there as a heads-up. ย ๐Ÿ™‚

Thanks again for your support. In the meantime, it is still February, for the rest of the day! Normally this would already be March. And yet here you and I are, a gift to another whole day of living. Hope that you find a moment to celebrate being able to enjoy life for an additional day this year! L’chaim!

Regular posting at the rate of once or twice a week will resume again shortly. May you have a wonderful – and additional! – day,ย and see you at the next post.

  1. How do you mean once or twice a week??? ๐Ÿ˜ฆ Who is going to keep me entertained? Ok, well perhaps a few might, but not enough.

Tomato soup did cut it with the orangey tint ๐Ÿ˜‰ I tried it out.

This is quite a subtle DT. I think. It’s a good thing P is not commenting or he would think that cat was baring its teeth at him, and he wouldn’t like the cat having the last word either. Tut tut!!

Still got plenty blog posts left to write today me, amidst other stuffs. Not enough days in the year, even when there is an extra one!

it was rather challenging coming up with a ‘Y’ word, actually since there were already a couple of them. in hindsight there were others i could have used, but oh well. they will keep for another project one day or simply for another post.

will you be posting the tomato soup one day? ๐Ÿ™‚

in any case, the cat may appear to be having the last word here, but you can let Pippa know that every dog has his day. ๐Ÿ˜€

  2. I am almost yawning — but i think it’s because I am tired. Chia was active last night — finding plastic to eat, papers to kick around. Hair to pull out…. My spritzer got lots of action, and I got not-so-much sleep. However….

Yawning IS highly contagious. When my students yawn, I tell them not to do that again (as I quickly cover my mouth and “stretch”) — and almost invariably they look at me as if I am losing my mind. Perhaps they just haven’t experienced the wonder of yawn contagion. Although last week a student at my table yawned, and as I admonished this student one at a neighbouring table — who couldn’t even see the original yawner because of the angle he was sitting at — yawned. I was able to point this out to the instigator and say “see what happens when you yawn?” The funniest thing is that this student actually believed s/he was the cause of the second yawn! Made up for all the other students who shrug and shake their heads at me. ๐Ÿ˜€

Happy “yawn” end of February! (oops,, that did it.)

it is a bit odd not to be setting up regular posts, i must admit. it was so much fun, and the responses from other bloggers was brilliant.

at the same time, it was quite a bit of work. it was not the first project series here at pix & kardz, however it was the first one with a month’s worth of daily posts. i don’t know how some bloggers are able to post something every day of the year, and visit other blogs too, besides having a real life as well ๐Ÿ™‚ it boggles the mind ๐Ÿ˜€

thanks again for stopping by and for your kind words. glad you enjoyed the series.

  5. Yaaawwwnnn! Yes it’s highly contagious, like you, if someone yawns, I find it really difficult not to follow suit.
Prob a useless bit of information to non dog readers, but dogs will yawn when in a stressed situation.
    Great 29 day blog ๐Ÿ™‚

Yes. And it’s because of our mirror neurons. Just google mirror neurons to learn all the way we mirror others.

    • thanks for this, Nancy. a term i had never heard of. there seem to be conflicting reports about this, however on April 12, 2010 the Science Daily reports about the first recording of mirror neurons.

  12. Today I came across a quote which reminded me of this post. So here it is, allegedly an African proverb.

If yawning could make you wealthy, then cats would be millionaires.
