when you want to have your cake and eat it too

Two-year old Sam is longing for the lighting of the candles, the speeches and formalities, and the singing of “Happy Birthday” to finally be done. It is a 90th birthday celebration, true enough, but there is a great cake just waiting to be eaten!

Blog Note
Q :: A 90th birthday party for two-year old Sam?
A :: After reading some of the comments below, I thought it might be good to clarify that Sam was one of the birthday guests. He was, in fact, the second-youngest in attendance. The party was for his great-grandmother 🙂

Got some time on your hands? A good place to wait is right here.

  18. Yes a good cake can be very tempting to eat. It’s especially difficult for a child! Great job!

    I really admire Sam’s patience!
    I might have had to create a distraction and then sneak a piece a bit early (at least some of the frosting)!

  30. A sweet shot but also thought-provoking. There are two layers of tension that I see here. There is his obvious desire for and fixation on the cake but there is also the juxtaposition between his tender age and his great-grandmother’s long life. He may be oblivious to the number atop the cake, and all that it represents, but I can’t look at this image without thinking about the circle of life and all the years he still has before him.
