My friend Jeannie celebrated her 60th birthday in a beautiful back yard last summer – with much joy and excitement – in the company of her husband, father, family and many friends including one from her elementary-school days. I have seldom seen anyone as gung-ho about an upcoming party and during the festivities as Jeannie. The more the merrier!
Her infectious enthusiasm began the moment the festivities were being planned, and were evident throughout the celebration. And 60 looks good on Jeannie. She has obviously embraced her new decade undauntedly – since she sees life as a gift. Having had Parkinson’s for many years has not dampened Jeannie’s philosophy that any and every reason to celebrate is a good one.
This joyful moment was captured during the soiree – which happened to land on the one rainy day in August – and Jeannie is sharing some Nini-time with two of her grandchildren under the big tarp. For the uninitiated, Jeannie’s grandkids call her Nini. And rain or not – which by the way was almost gone by time the party was in full gear – the celebration went on without a hitch.
Love you, Jeannie! May blessings continue to keep you covered….

I love the photo. That little handy firework was my favorite in childhood and it still is. Great celebrations. Good wishes for more! 🙂

thanks Nandini. this was such a sweet moment. all the birthday guests had one of these sparklers, and they were lit as we sang ‘happy birthday’ before the cutting of the cake. but the little girl was afraid of it and just watched everyone. after everyone else’s was out, she decided she was brave enough, and she was so thrilled with it. her Nini enjoyed this afterglow moment with her.
